A Move Away is a parent who seeks permission from their local Family Court to relocate, taking the children with them and away from the parent left behind. This practice is all-too-often used dishonorably, for purposes of parental alienation and what often amounts to kidnapping.
While most Move Aways move to another city, county or state, my case is one of international relocation. In addition to the distance separating me from my children (6,000 miles and 9 time zones), this international relocation adds the complexity of different legal systems and cross-jurisdiction enforcement problems, different languages and different cultures.
By sharing my story, I hope to bring awareness to this problem and show the damage done when Move Aways misuse the legal system for purposes of abuse. Although my case is on the extreme side of abuse, it is not unique. Throughout the blog, my ex-wife will be referred to as Jane: Her actual name isn’t important, her actions represent those of countless other parents who abuse the legal system for purposes of parental alienation, spite and revenge.
